The tale of Lottie Moon who was by the standards of the time a risqué and untamed woman she had a spirit that would at times having her shooting pistols and riding her horse at breakneck speeds through the backstreet's of her town. The young woman always had many suitors, but one in particular a Yankee by the name of "Button" Burnside, yes that was Ambrose whose made famous sideburns was one of her serious admirers.
Ambrose and Lottie met through a friend of Lottie's who would go on to marry Benjaman Harrison. Burnside was enthralled with the wit, charisma, and dazzling conversation that she espoused. He told her to set the "happy day". The wedding day was upon them the friends and relatives were all gathered in the church awaiting the much anticipated nuptials. The preacher asked Ol' "Button" whether he would have and to hold and so on of he was full of bluster and vowed his deepest love for the temptress with a "Yes I will" the parson moved to Lottie and posed the question to a grinning Lottie! Will you have and hold Ambrose as your husband.
Lottie replied "No Siree" I won't and with that out the door she went.
