The sight of 23,110 luminary candles lit on a dark field commemorating the fact that so many young men died in a one day battle in 1862 is a very hard thing to adequately describe.
When you first enter the park there is a long upgrade and you are able to see many luminary's burning their flickering homage to the soldiers lost their lives in the bloodiest one day battle known to man. As you slowly follow the massive line of autos you come to the top of the rise and before you is row after row after row of those soft reminders of the death that was dealt that infamous day near the sleepy little town of Sharpsburg, MD
