The line continues along the Opium road to America ;
This situation only lasted four years. When in 1856, The French and British hierarchy once more began warring with the Chinese government in the second round of the Opium Wars. The importation of Opium is legalized. This action also known as the Arrow War lasts until 1860.
Southeast Asia becomes a vast source of poppy production for the Opium trade.
{Please keep this fact in mind as we continue down the Opium road.}Sir David Sassoon born in 1792 dies in 1864 who was a major trader in opium during his lifetime.He established a world wide shipping company with his eight sons wielding the power of his trading empire. The entire family moved to London and that is where the control of their empire was operated. His son Abdullah who changed his name to Edward Albert eventually became involved in 1887 with Aline Caroline de Rothschild hence tying the Sassoon opium/trading fortune to the fortunes of the Rothschild family.
{Please make note of the connection to these two powerful and wealthy families in the overall trip down the Opium Road}
As we move along this interesting pathway we come to another famous American and that is Franklin Delano Roosevelt. His fortunes came through his grandfather on his mother’s side. Warren Delano, who was a senior partner in the trading company the Russell & Company. The Russell Company ships sailed the high seas transporting “spices” which included in the cargo lots of Opium.
{More on the Russell company to follow!}
This tale is far from done and I am only giving you bits and pieces of the overall Opium wealth debacle that continues on through the lineage of many individuals yet to this day!
