The Tale Continues

As the band of young troopers fought their way from battleground to battlefield losing men and seeing bloodshed all along the way the young trooper now a battle hardened veteran longed only to be with his sweetheart as he would lie on moonlit night staring at the north stars remembering his promise to marry his sweetheart under the star, their star to be forever in each other arms.

The next day would come and the next and the next for ever marching toward the north to Yankee land. The cold had turned to spring and the beauty of spring had passed and now the horrible hot and steamy weather of the summer was upon the troops making a horrid chore to march in the 90 and 100 degree heat pressing on forever being like a bug on a hot plate never resting always having to be alert not knowing if you would live through the day.

It was near the end of June and the talk in the ranks was of a place called Gettysburg where they might get some new brogans for their ache'n dogs.  Tomorrow we keep moving was the last thing the young rebel remembered hearing before drifting off to a light sleep.
